The Day we, the people of INDIA were declared DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC !
26th day of January, 1950 when our Indian Constitution came into force and the dream of becoming an independent republic country became a reality.
Today, we celebrate the Republic day with delight and magnificence paying respect to the soldiers who have laid down their lives for the protection of our country and its people to breathe with peace.
The Constitution of India is the largest constitution in the world and it provides the people with different rights, duties and rules to follow.
On this day, 71 years ago, the Constitution of India gave its citizens the immense power to govern themselves by choosing the government on their own which can help their society grow and prosper. Empowered by the Constitution (Right to vote), the citizens must use their voting power in order to help our country become more prosperous in the coming future by selecting the right government which leads the country on the path of prosperity.
Most people don't know the significance of selecting 26th day of January for enforcing the Constitution of India. It was this day only when for the first time Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, our first Prime Minister, unfurled the Indian Tricolor Flag at Lahore in January 1930 and demanded 'Purna Swaraj' or complete independence from the Britishers.
Talking about celebrations, hearts filled with patriotic fervor and immense love for motherland, students, army officials and people from various communities take out parades in all the corners of the country. A Grand Parade is held in New Delhi from Raisina hill near the Rashtrapati Bhawan, along the Rajpath, past India Gate and on to the Red Fort. The Prime Minister begins the ceremony by laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India gate to commemorate all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. National Flag is unfurled by the president and the National Anthem is played marking the beginning of the Grand Parade. The President accompanied by a notable foreign Head of State (Chief Guest) being the Commander-in-chief of the Indian Armed forces, takes the salute at the grand parade. The Indian military also showcases their latest acquisitions such as tanks, missiles, radars, etc. The people from the armed forces are awarded for their exceptional courage in the field and also the civilians who have distinguished themselves by their different acts of valor in different situations.
But, why celebrating this day in a magnificent manner ends in one day only? Why this patriotic excitement, feeling of love towards our motherland last for one day only? Let's come together with a feeling of safeguarding the interests of our country - whether it is social, economical, cultural or environmental - in order to take a step towards a nation well equipped with health, success and prosperity.
Let's take an oath this Republic day.
WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, hereby promise to adopt cleanliness, to keep an open mind in every situation, to say no to injustice, to be more accepting and tolerant, to consider humanity as the greatest religion, to put health first, to detox from technology once in a while, to be more socially aware, to first understand and act rather than act and regret and to become a better citizen.
Taking this oath is a good start to bring in a small change in our society.
Wishing all the readers a very Happy Republic Day.
